Internships

Master's 1 and 2 courses include an internship in a laboratory or company, the aim of which is to train students through research and integrate them into a professional environment. These internships enable students to progress in a variety of specialized scientific fields. More generally, these internships provide skills in:

  • autonomy
  • time and resource management
  • writing (via the drafting of the final report)
  • oral presentation (via the final oral defense)
For each internship, an agreement is signed between UGA and the host laboratory or company. Students are supervised by researchers or professionals who participate in the evaluation of the work carried out. Internship reports are then evaluated by a Major (M1) or Specialization (M2) jury. In addition, an oral defense allows the jury to evaluate the student's scientific maturity, theoretical knowledge, and ability to work independently on the project.

The organization of internships at the specialty Process Engineering As it is unique, it is covered in a separate section.

Terms and conditions of the Master 1 internship

It lasts a minimum of two months but can last up to five months if agreed with the host laboratory or company. This internship can be carried out in France or abroad. It is an integral part of the program (and counts for 9 ECTS credits in the Master's in Biology, 6 ECTS credits in the Master's in Chemistry and Processes).

Terms and conditions of the Master 2 internship

The Master 2 internship lasts six months (January to June for research tracks; dates may vary for professional tracks). The internship may take place in a city other than Grenoble or abroad.

The Master 2 internship (27 ECTS) is an important part of the program. For M2 Research students, it allows for the evaluation of students' aptitudes for pursuing a career in research by continuing on to a doctoral thesis. For M2 Pro students, it is an end-of-studies internship that allows students to enter the professional world and put their skills to the test.

In addition to these mandatory internships in M1 and M2, it is possible to do voluntary internships in Grenoble laboratories starting in the bachelor's degree program. This can give students a concrete idea of what it means to be a researcher at the beginning of their studies. Thus, students in the L3 Chemistry and Chemical Biology have the opportunity to do a 3-week internship at the beginning of the second semester (early January). This course is called "discovering a laboratory."

In all cases, an agreement must be drawn up between the laboratory, the student, and UGA. Please consult your program office for more information.

SAFETY POINT: INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURES

The paper safety formfor mobility programs and internships has been replaced by a safety form created in MoveOn, which students must complete before leaving for abroad. As a reminder, this ensures that the UFR departments know that students have checked the safety conditions on the MEAE website before their departure and have registered on the Ariane thread.

The terms and conditions for providing information and submitting this form:
- For students on study mobility programs: the IR managers of the component
- For internships abroad: a link to the form is available in P-Stage.
- For gap years: an additional note is added to the paper document "Gap Year Agreement."

Once the student has completed the form (link in the attachment or accessible in LEO), a PDF will be generated: it must be printed and signed by the student, then sent to the relevant administrators (hard copy or scanned copy): IR, internship, or gap year.
