This conference, organized by the UMR Litt&Arts, invites participants to reflect on the role of reading in the writing workshop.
Following the workshop“Writing Workshop Practices at UGA: A Current Assessment,” held in February 2025, this conference brings together faculty members and writers to further explore the practices and creative visions underlying these initiatives.
More specifically, these sessions will focus on ways of reading in writing workshops, from two perspectives: the aim is not only to examine the role and uses of literary texts within writing workshops (exploring the resources drawn upon, the use of prompt texts), but also to consider the workshop as a space for reading, in the sense that the facilitator and participants are led to interpret the texts produced during the sessions. In short, how should we read literary texts in a workshop, and how, furthermore, should we read the texts produced by the workshop? In this regard, this conference also aims to be a space where writers, researchers, and teachers can open up the writing workshop, to reveal its inner workings, present experiences, and document its process, reflecting on both moments of success and moments of conflict or failure, while sharing tips, advice, exercises, and guidelines.
